OK I’m not really on the hotspot, but last week I sent them an e-mail just saying some stuff about wario land and EA and now I’ve been mentioned on the HotSpot, if anyone else cares and wants to hear it, I’ve cut the part out and here it is for your listening pleasure.
Something I made yesterday. I know the eyes will look weird because it’s inverted and I was trying to draw it with a marker that claimed to be extra fine but wasn’t really that fine at all

What do you think? I had no way of tracing the design on so I had to do it freehand :S I’m pretty chuffed with it tbh
Markop (or Marktop as I like to call him) won the podcast competition ages ago. We released a crappy video on Gamespot showing us drawing the winner (using Shaun’s caluclator!) but we keep forgetting to actually announce the winner on the podcasts :S I’ve emailed Marktop for his address and the t-shirt will be painted and posted shortly.
Congrats to Marktop
Hand painted by me (tofu-lion)
Here’s the logo on the front of the t-shirt:

(For obvious reasons the competition winner will not have ’staff’ painted on their shirt!)
For the competition question check out last weeks podcast (Hiss Boo Edition)

If you live in the UK then we’ll pay full P&P – if you live in America you’ll have to make up the difference. God knows how that’s gonna work but hey
If you haven’t noticed, we’ve got a proper domain name now! Like posh folks
So I’ll just go on google and wikipedia and surely I’ll find lots of free to play games, come on, how hard could it be? I feel so foolish, after the extreme ease of finding and installation of Perfect World International I was feeling very good about looking for free games, I even thought it could be a really fun and interesting thing to do. Granted that was BEFORE I played Perfect World (See review for clarification). I have been searching for a good free to play game which was not a MMORPG as I am mighty sick of them as I’m sure you may have noticed I’m not exactly a fan of MMORPGs.
I found a game that looked very promising, Combat Arms from Nexon, this looked like a very nice online FPS in a similar vein to Counter Strike, something enjoyable to get the last remains of MMORPG blood out of me. As the game downloaded I looked through the screenshots and thought, it can’t look THAT good can it? Then of course screenshots of perfect world international popped into my head, those screenshots looked nice, but failed to point out the extreme monotony inherent within that game. Anyway, the download finished and I went through the usual sign up that I have since come to expect in free games so I’m going to have even more emails to ignore to death (over 600 and counting). Once I got onto the game and had registered I was met by this message:
It seems even people who make completely free games hate Europeans. Why Nexon? Why lock the game to America? It’s a free game it makes no sense to region lock it. It annoys me that with all these millions of checks the free games do whilst registering and downloading they don’t look at what country you live in BEFORE getting the game, then it wouldn’t waste time HDD space. Nexon isn’t the only one guilty of this sin, I had pretty much the exact same thing whilst trying to run O2Jam. So it seems finding and playing these free games is a lot harder than it originally seemed.

So the world is in financial crisis and people will be wanting to spend less money on luxuries and as much as we hate to admit it, video games falls into the categories of luxury. With the credit crunch and inflation less of our money is going to our hobby, surely there must be some good alternative so we don’t have to keep paying our hard earned money on games.
Many of us like to try and keep on top of the new releases but apart from either being rich or having someone else provide games for you this is just not possible. Over the past few years games have been getting more and more expensive (upto and including £60($120) at one point) so there really must be some alternative, and I don’t mean looking through various websites crawling with viruses to download a pirate version. Surely there are alternatives, surely there are some (legal) free games somewhere?
After a quick look through wikipedia and google I managed to stumble across a new gaming trend, originating in Korea and China of free to play multiplayer online games. So over the coming weeks I will explore the depths of the internet looking for all the best and above all free video games.
